Technical Skills

Why not incorporate some formal technical skills training into your guided ride, or perhaps have a fitness test in the morning and bolt an afternoon’s skills session on to it? Whether you want to improve your cornering, descending, climbing, balance or improve your ability to ride obstacles on the trail, we can help you. The Long Mynd offers beautiful rolling moorland trails, which are ideal for beginners and then there’s Eastidge, a Mountain Bike racing venue of word-class pedigree. Home to the European Mountain Biking Championships in 1999, there are sections of Eastridge that will challenge even the most technically gifted of Mountain Bikers.

TORQ’s technical skills instructors are CTC trained, which means that they have been cherry picked by the CTC to represent the country’s most popular cycling governing body in the geographical area surrounding TORQ in Shropshire and the Shropshire/Powys boarders. We are easy to get to as well, being just 45 minutes from Birmingham along the M54.

Both Matt Hart and Anthony Roland have an immense amount of Mountain Biking experience behind them:

Matt Hart: Former Pro/Elite cross-country Mountain Bike racer, with 20yrs Mountain Biking experience. His knowledge of performance issues and training is second to none. He holds a BSc (hons) degree in Sport Science and is a British Cycling qualified coach and OTC trained Technical Mountain Bike Leader. He has a huge amount of experience and expertise to pass on to others to aid all aspects of Mountain Biking development. In 2009 he was trained by the CTC as a Mountain Biking Skills Instructor.

Anthony Roland: Anthony is also a former Pro/Elite cross-country Mountain Bike racer with 19 yrs Mountain Biking experience. He has been with TORQ for 3 years and holds a BSc (hons) degree in Sport Development & Coaching and is an OTC trained Technical Mountain Bike Leader. He also has a Level 3 Sports Leaders UK award, and numerous other coaching related certificates. Like Matt, in 2009 Anthony was trained by the CTC as a Mountain Biking Skills Instructor.

For more information about Matt and Anthony, visit the Our Coaches section of this website.

We also run scheduled skills training courses (Beginners through to Advanced) which can be viewed in the Events section of this site. So, if you fancy joining a bunch of like-minded Mountain Bikers for a full day of skills development, contact us on enquiries@torqfitness.co.uk and book yourself in (A pub lunch and TORQ goodie bag containing a bottle and selection of TORQ products are included in the price you pay).

Remember, technical skills training isn’t just about descending, cornering and getting over obstacles – it’s about climbing efficiently, choosing lines, pedalling smoothly and carrying your speed. We’ll enlighten you.
