1 Week 2 Marathons

TORQ Performance Running’s Sally Ford thought that testing herself with 2 Marathons in 1 week would be the perfect way to start her 2016 campaign…

It felt like a very long winter for Sally, as she had struggled with injury from October to January and was on her way back to full fitness when she tore a calf muscle at the end of January. Desperate to get back out running, Sally kept fit with bike and cross trainer sessions, but knew when she decided to give the Malta Marathon a go, it would be painful!

Sally – I pushed hard, but the miles just weren’t in my legs. Added into that, the heat and a strong headwind meant I really had to battle. I eventually managed a 3.14 with a sprint for 5th place, which I missed out on (in part because my chip hadn’t worked – so I’ll never be sure), but I was pretty pleased with that.

Fast forward a week and I was on the start line of the Wrexham Marathon. Malta was still in my legs and again, after 18 miles it was pretty hellish. Still, my Black Cherry Yoghurt gels kept me going and I finished 3rd lady in 3 hours and 16 mins – far from my best, but a good start to the season and some hard fast miles made for great training.

Hopefully my injuries are behind me and I’m looking forward to stepping up the mileage as we head into spring.

Malta: 5th – 3:14:00
Wrexham: 3rd Lady – 3:16:00
