OK, so perhaps it's not officially the first race of the season, but in my mind it's from now on that they really counts. The TORQ riders will have noticed that I have added a little injection of speed into their training over the past week or so. And there's no better way of achieving this than by getting them to race. Usually the first few races of the season are regrettable experiences due to lack of form and speed, but Theresa Jordan didn't do too badly with a 2nd place at the London Cross League at the weekend. I asked Theresa for a brief account of her conquest, so she obligingly wrote a few paragraphs for us...

"Here we go again! It seemed like only yesterday since I'd last raced at Eastway. Funny then, that winter training seems to have gone on forever too?

Predictably the wind blew, but we were blessed with sunshine (not quite the tropical type though). I wasn't to expect too much from my first race of the season, but if you didn't care you wouldn't race, so of course it was important to me. Organisational reminders to sign on early and get a practice lap in were highlighted and ignored and I only left time for half a practice lap. Alas, one of the lessons re-learnt every year!

TORQ will shortly be launching a brand new nutritional product, developed specifically with cyclists/endurance athletes in mind.

The TORQ bar will be available in two flavours:

    TORQ BAR 1 - Apricot

    TORQ BAR 2 - Banana

Both bars will be from made entirely from natural ingredients, packed with carbohydrate and will contain 14 Vitamins and Minerals. The fat content of the bars will also be incredibly low at just under 2%. I know I’m bound to say that they taste great, but these are seriously moist, chewy, tasty bars - something that’s typically hard to achieve in a low fat, high carbohydrate product. Next time you have a tasty energy bar, check the fat content and then decide whether you should really be eating it...

Jason Le Page is a Downhill Mountain Biker who lives on Guernsey (one of the Channel Islands for those of you who may be geographically challenged). I’ve been coaching Jason for the best part of two years now and being a very sporting kind of chap, he has very boldly agreed to ‘Go-Live’ with his progress on a monthly basis as a matter of interest to all of you. Every month you’ll be able to log-on to the TORQ site to see how Jason’s getting on...

    Jason writes:

    Whallo me ol mucka!

Hopping along, still chirping a song are we? (Ed. A completely unnecessary skit on my broken leg, but alas yes - still hopping).

This isn’t exactly groundbreaking research, but it’s a flippin’ good idea. I owe it all to Tanya Black, one of my Personal Training clients who bravely tolerates the challenging little exercise routines I subject her to on a weekly basis. She does share the agony and ecstasy of physical exercise with her husband Steven though, so at least they each have a shoulder to cry on at the end of the day...

Well, as we were about to part company last Thursday, I had a frozen banana thrust into my hand, wrapped up in tin foil. ‘Eat it’ Tanya said. Who was I to disobey orders? So I did, and jolly splendid it was too. Actually, that doesn’t even come close in explaining how good it tasted – pure rapture, a creamy symphony of subtle bananary essence. It’s better than banana ice cream really, but paradoxically healthy! How can something this good for you taste so wonderful?
