Team TORQ FITNESS have been there, done it and now we’re having a little kip and resting our flaked-out pins. After Scott and James had bullied me into doing this thing, dragging me kicking and screaming out of my comfortable retirement, they’d send smug little e-mails and articulate the odd sarchy phrase as we conversed by telephone. I just ignored them. In fact it wasn’t until I was being woken up at 3am to ride my second night lap (I think I’d collapsed into a pile of Jaffa Cakes and bananas) that it all came flooding back. I then remembered what Scott had said to me soon after he’d twisted my arm into doing it. “You’ve got absolutely no idea what you’ve let yourself in for mate,” he said with Jasper Carrot wit (and voice)…

The Red Bull Mountain Mayhem is drawing closer. In fact it's next weekend. The TORQ FITNESS team are just fitting together the last pieces of the jigsaw, organising shopping lists, responsibilities, cleaning their bikes and most importantly arguing over who's going to do the bloody run!

Here's the team and a little bit about their masterful qualities.

MATT HART (former Pro-Elite): El Capitan, Numero Uno, The Boss. His training methods and sports nutrition products are sponsoring the team of the team. Unfortunately he sounds worryingly like Judge Jules from Radio One (separated at birth?), however unlike Jules, Matt’s disco dancing leaves a lot to be desired (see www.101stupidwaystobreakyourleg.com).

There has been a mixture of reactions from my riders regarding the 10th anniversary Gorrick ‘mud-bath’ last weekend (26th May). The general response though was ‘great course – crap weather’ and as a result ride times were a little longer than anticipated. Some reveled in it, whilst others packed-up, went home and drowned their sorrows in a hot bath. I personally had every intention of doing it as a warm-up to the Red Bull, but was left (quite literally) holding the baby, so I really don’t know what my reaction would have been had I been there.

After a storming ride at the last round of the NPS (Catton Hall), Steve Farmer’s 9th place in the Pro-Elite class was enough to secure him 2 vital UCI points enabling him to race the World Cup at Houffalize. Steve got straight onto Ryanair to book his flight to Belgium and here’s his account of his ride.
