    Season’s greetings to you all from TORQ fitness – wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I have one small and simple Christmas message this year, which is to ‘focus on your potential’ in 2003. Whether you exercise for fun, or compete competitively you’ll always get out what you put in. Sorry, a bit of a cliché, but hey, why beat about the bush? If you want the serenity, health and confidence that fitness brings, you’ve got to work hard at it; there are no short cuts. Just as money won’t buy happiness, it won’t buy you health and fitness either… whoops, another cliché! Once again, Merry Christmas and may 2003 bring you the rewards you’re going to work so hard to gain…

    How fast should your legs be spinning? Is it more efficient to grind a big gear, or twiddle a small one? So intrigued was I about this concept, that I spent the whole of my final year at university investigating it. I ploughed through hundreds of scientific journals in search of relevant studies and reviews so that I could answer this question definitively. I also conducted my own series of experimental drills using competitive cyclists to test these documented findings. Without wishing to blow my own trumpet, if there’s anyone out there able to provide an answer to this, it should be me, but the whole subject of optimal pedal cadence is not as clear-cut as you might think…
