    Day 59: 14/10/03
    Rest day: Lumbarda
    Weather: Warm

    Sightseeing in Korcula Town

    Day 60: 15/10/03
    From: Lumbarda
To: Skrivena Luka on Lastovo Island
    Dist: 68km
    Weather: Overcast, cool

Nice ride across Korcula island to the harbour town of Vela Luka at other end. 4pm boat didn’t take bikes so had to wait til 6pm which meant arriving on Lastovo at night. Tried to ride out of harbour on road to campsite, but roads were pitch black and my light wasn’t strong enough to light road. Eventually rescued by islands sole ‘Postie’ (Lastovo only has 700 inhabitants) who also has a small campsite. Threw my bike in the back of his car and in 10 minutes we were at the site on the other end of the island.

Over the last couple of months the media reviews on TORQ bar have continued to roll in. We’ve been concentrating mainly on the Mountain Bike market to date, just because that’s where we’re currently more established, but over the next couple of months we’ll be shipping the bars off to the Road Cycling and Triathlon mags to see what they make of it…

Firstly, take a look at this online review by www.bikemagic.com

TORQ bar earned 5 stars out of a possible 5 in every category. Now that can’t be bad can it eh? Bike magic concluded “TORQ has come up with a winner here. These bars taste good, do good stuff once they’re in there and the price is very reasonable”.

    Day 50: 05/10/03
    From: Zagreb
    To: Karlovac
    Dist: 81 km
    Weather: Rain, headwind

It totally threw it down last night. When I woke up this morning I hoped, in the back of my mind that it would still be raining heavily. Zagreb is a superb city, the best I’ve visited, and I desperately wanted an excuse to stay another day. The highlight of my stay was definitely the Romany wind orchestra I saw on the Friday night. If you ever come to Eastern Europe make sure you see a genuine gypsy brass band. What a wild night. By far the best gig I’ve ever been to.

    Days 40-42: 25/09/03 – 27/09/03

    Rest Days: Budapest
    Weather: Sunny

Budapest gradually grew on me, mainly due to the thermal baths dotted all over the city. Highly recommended for tired cyclists with aching legs.

    Day 43: 28/09/03
    From: Budapest
    To: Szekesfehervar
    Dist: 100km
    Weather: Warm, scattered clouds, cross/headwind

Headed southwest out of the city towards Lake Balaton. About 4 hours sleep, a hangover and a row with the hostel manager (he tried to rip me off) all made concentrating on navigating out of Budapest’s urban sprawl a challenge. Eventually escaped and was out on the open road alone again. Robin was heading towards Romania across the Hungarian Plain. Unfortunately the fore-mentioned row meant that we didn’t get to say goodbye properly. I’m sure we’ll get to meet in either London or Eindhoven pretty soon. It was great fun riding with Robin and I’m taking some great memories away with me, particularly from our time in Krakow and Budapest.
