A fantastic result achieved by TORQ-tuned Steve Price this weekend in the Brighton round of the London Cyclocross League. At last he secured victory in a series where 1st place has thus far eluded him. Here’s what he had to say:

"Bloody excellent, finally the win that I have trained so hard for. Not the strongest of fields but the winning habit needs to start somewhere, the conditions were atrocious but I’m confident that my strength in the mud and my fast running legs kept me strong to the end. A quick note that I have been using a ribose dose after every interval session and I feel it has helped me recover and get through the working day and be ready for the next days heavy training load, which is particularly tough as I’m doing all my training this time of year in the gym (6.30 in the morning).”

    Day:
    From: Dimitrovgrad
    To: Edirne
    Dist: 127km
Weather: Chilly, scattered cloud, strong tail/crosswind

Took back roads through Voden, Aleksandrovo and Poljanovo. Very steeply undulating and quite draining. Killer crosswind also. Dropped on to E80 in to Harmanli. In theory I could stay on this road all the way to Istanbul now. Traffic not too bad, though as the road is being "improved" by the EU, I expect it is only going to get busier. Wind now mainly behind me and so flew most of the way, though when it did blow across me it was hell. Took me clean off the road a few times!

At long last, there’s finally an opportunity for those of you with a ‘performance’ inclination to meet up with me for a fitness and training day. TORQ and Gorrick MBC have teamed-up to run a coaching and training workshop on Saturday 29th November 2003 - and places are limited, so book NOW to avoid disappointment. It’s only 20 quid!

THIS IS LUCA’S PENULTIMATE INSTALLMENT. HIS NEXT AND FINAL DISPATCH WILL BE FROM ISTANBULL (IF HIS BIKE STAYS TOGETHER!)

    Day 80: 04/11/03
    From: Craiova
    To: Orjahovo
    Dist: 91km
    Weather: Overcast, rain later

Out early to avoid riding in the dark again. Took road signed to Calerfert 'til Poden where I turned south towards Bulgaria. Very quiet tarmaced roads. Through Segrcea and Dranic. Many more Roma in this area - was lucky enough to see some women in traditional gypsy dress. Would have liked to stay longer in Romania, but I keep getting caught out by the weather and the short days so have to keep moving on.

Through Zaval (rain now) and on to Bechet to cross the Danube for the the third and final time this trip, though now by ferry. Got to Romanian customs by 1.30, but was kept hanging around for no obvious reason for over half hour. Once through I missed ferry by 1 minute and so had to wait over 2 hours for it to return. Too late now to continue so got room here. Had no Bulgarian currency whatsoever, though fortunately emergency Euros were accepted with little persuasion needed.

    Days 69 & 70: 24/10/03 & 25/10/03
    Rest days: Sarajevo
    Weather: Cold

Sightseeing. Fascinating place. Most interesting yet. Left bar on Friday night/sat morning to snow. Not again please!

    Day 71: 26/10/03
    From: Sarajevo
    To: Zvornik
    Dist: 151km
    Weather: Freezing!

Set off in to a cold but thankfully dry morning. Took the high main road out of the east of the city heading for Sokolac. Very nice views, at least from what I could see through the mist. A closed tunnel meant a welcome detour on a steeper, higher road. Picked up a passenger at the bottom of the climb, a very friendly dog who kept me company for the half hour slog upwards.
