The Olympics Games is the pinnacle of any athlete’s career, and racing in front of a home crowd is a once in a lifetime experience. Two riders who have worked hard for this opportunity and have been rewarded with selection for their home games are Joanne Roswell and Dani King of the TORQ-fuelled Matrix Pendras Female Road Cycling team..

The girls will be taking on the team pursuit, a track cycling discipline in which a team of 3 riders race an opposing team, who start on the opposite side of the track. The race takes place over 3km and the winning team is the one who catches the opposing team first, or (the more likely scenario) sets the fastest time over the distance. The current world record set by Dani, Jo and teammate Laura Trott at the world championships earlier this year, stands at a staggering 3:15:72!

Dani and Joanne are both champions on track and road.  Dani is the current World Under 23 European, Senior European and National Team Pursuit Champion, and at only 21 years old is one of the youngest members of the team.  Joanne has also been a World Champion, World Cup Winner, National Champion and European Champion.  They come to the games in peak form after a string of wins in top level road and track events earlier in the season and fresh from a team training camp in Majorca, their last big block of training in prep for the games.

The girls will be in action this evening as they take on the qualification for the main event tomorrow and if all goes to plan, we should see them with their arms aloft on the top of the podium early tomorrow evening!
