Ironman UK 70.3

This may have been a very hard race, (where it was hill after hill on both the bike and run), however Emma Lamont tamed the terrain at this iconic and incredibly competative event. All of Emma’s training, determination and perseverance was rewarded by an incredible place on the podium – a huge result that we as a team are very proud of…

Pre-race day – traffic jams on the treacherous M6, sunshine and nerves

Race morning – porridge, banana, air in tyres, easy run, ready to go

Swim – lots of rain, surprisingly warm water, elbows and kicks in the face, so starting in the middle at the front of 800 swimmers was probably not my best idea. Thankfully clear water after 500m, settled into my rhythm, exit swim in 9th, first uphill run of the day to T1, out of T1 in 7th, great start

Bike – rain, rain, wind, long climbs, cheers from the locals, steep descents and tight corners, into T2 in 4th

Run – so happy to be running, hills, grass, feeling strong and moving up the field. More hills and definitely should have eaten more earlier. The last 6km was a proper test of my endurance.

Finish Line – Ecstatic, amazing crowds, 3rd lady Overall, 2nd in Age Group and qualification for Ironman 70.3 World Championships!!

Post-race – Sunshine, bubbly, trophy and a fun night camping.

Thanks to TORQ and all the team sponsors and I can’t wait to represent the team at the World Champs in August!
