The Best of Europe

In a super competitive race where the best of Europe were in attendance,Alex Lawton raced super hard, put in fastest run for the day and narrowly missed out on a podium, coming in 4th, less than 3 seconds behind top spot.

With a decent set of results from previous races, this was a chance for Alex to race abroad again for the first time in 3 years and don the GBR vest. He’d rightly set his expectations on a medal, but had to somewhat temper these over the preceding months as life got in the way and put spanners in the works. Whilst not considering himself a pure, natural swimmer, Alex told us, “I’m quite literally lucky to have the support of HUUB, which helped me put together a decent swim and come out of the water in 12th place”. Alex continued to gain places during the two laps of the out and back bike course and came back into T2 well inside the top 10. “It’s always nice to finish strongly and although I knew I’d make up more ground on the run, you could never quite tell who was who on the busy course. I’ll take some pride in putting in the fastest run across all the Age Groups on the day but there’s only one time that matters in Triathlon”. Alex finished just outside the medals in 4th place and 8th overall and commented, “Which goes to show the calibre of competition in the category, who I of course, doff my hat to”.

A big thank you to our sponsors for making it happen; we couldn’t do it without you.
