Powertap Rental

Although we have our own range of branded products at TORQ, we also get behind and support other brands whose technology and dedicated attention to detail we respect. We consider Powertap to be one of these products on the basis that it has revolutionised the way in which cyclists are training and how we coach and advise these individuals.

There’s a whole host of information on the Powertap System on this website, but in summary a Powertap consists of an electronic computer processor fitted inside the hub of the rear wheel of a bicycle wheel. 4 pairs of strain gauges feed torque data to the processor and this along with cadence and wheel speed data is used to calculate power in ‘Watts’.

TORQ sell a variety of Powertap Systems, but from early 2010 they will also be available on short or long-term rental. Here are some of the rental options that will be available:

1) Half-day hire: If you book an appointment to test-ride a Powertap at TORQ, for a fee of only £30 we will fit the system to your bike and provide you with a choice of routes (programmed into one of the TORQ Memory Map GPS systems). You will then have up to 4 hours to test-ride the system. If you like the system enough to purchase it, we will discount the rental fee from the cost of a new system, so effectively your test-ride will have cost you nothing.

2) Full-day hire: As long as you get the Powertap back to us by 5pm, you can use the system for the entire day at a cost of only £40. It’s the same protocol as above, except that you get a full day to ride with it. Again, this fee will be refunded should you decide to purchase a system from us.

3) Long-term hire: If you’d like a longer trial, or don’t have the budget to purchase a system outright, for as little as £9 per week, you can rent a Powertap system from us. We even have a payment plan that will eventually allow you to purchase the system or claim a credit on a new Powertap.
