Geir ‘Popeye’ Robinson started competitive cycling just four years ago having played at martial arts and surfing before that and 2019 sees him returning to the track as the latest member of the TORQ Track Team.
Over the past couple of years he has focussed on time trials on the road and enjoyed longer distances including silly things like cycling up Mont Ventoux three times in a day, just because it was there. In 2017 he won the LVRC National Time Trial Championships, with a second place in 2018 testament to his consistency. He has also taken the silver medal for last two years at the UCI Tour of Cambridge Time Trial and will be aiming for gold in 2019.
Geir won his age group in the hotly contested Sinclair Pharma Urban Hill Climb in London in 2018, along with several other open CTT time trials. All of which prepared him for the UCI Grandfondo World Championship Time Trials where he placed 12th and 13th at the last two events in France and Italy respectively.
2018 saw him proudly completing standard distances of 10 miles in 19:00 and 25 miles in 48:55. Cycling keeps Geir fit for family life with two teenage daughters and a job working as part of the executive team of one of the largest commodity trading companies.
