Cranbrook Triathlon

Sam Dell took to the start line of the Cranbrook sprint in the hope of winning for the second year in a row. Well, he certainly went for it and put 4 minutes between himself and 2nd position, to take the win convincingly. This is what he had to say…

This was a race that I had to do as I was the winner last year! The race was exactly the same format, a 400 metre pool swim, 20 kilometre bike and 5 kilometre run through a forest.

I was one of the last starters. The 400m swim was fairly uneventful, I completed it in 5 minutes 33 seconds, over 30 seconds quicker than last year.

I was straight onto the bike and immediately noticed the cross winds. The ride was fairly flat so I was able to stay for the most part down on the aero-bars. I quickly made my way past several people on the bike and no-one overtook me.

I entered into T2 feeling fairly good and had a good idea I was on for 1st if I could get through the run with no problems. I did this and crossed the line in 1hr and 1 second to seal my second victory at this event over a minute faster than last year!
