Silver Sunday

Last weekend saw the team in action at events right across the country for the annual Regional Championship races, where each regional organiser in the UK puts on a Championship race giving riders the chance to be named the Regional Champion for the season.

Welsh XC Championships – Despite being an Expert category racer, Jake Phelps was up against Wales’s best Elite riders for the Champs, with some strong competition! Jake put in an exceptional ride to finish in Silver Medal position on the hilly and technical course at Fforest Fields, Builth Wells.

Midlands Championships – Up against a strong field of Elite riders, Alex Welburn and Jules Toone took to the start lines at Harlow Woods, Mansfield. After a 2nd place result in 2015 Alex, who was celebrating his 21st birthday riding this race, was gunning for the win. Up against former National Champion, Dave Feltcher, ALex put in a powerful ride to podium with Silver. In the Women’s Elite race the return of British Olympian, Annie Last, meant Jules had her work cut out to retain her 2015 Midlands XC Female Elite Champion title and after a hard battle, Jules came away with a well earned Silver Medal.

Southern Champs – Joe Griffiths took to the start line at the Southern XC held at former National XC Venue, Wasing Estate, Berkshire. Despite facing some experienced competition, Joe, riding only his 2nd season in the Elite category, finished a very respectable 4th, just a few seconds off the podium and following on the back of a heavy week of training in prep for the National XC at Dalby Forest in a week’s time.
