Some Serious Elevation

Towards the end of the season, Helvellyn is a great last hit out, with some serious gain in elevation. Alex Lawton has now won this race 3 years running and this year was just as special…

Here is Alex’s account of the event:

“Despite this being one of my favourite races, I very nearly gave it a miss this year. Fortunately, I saw sense, got my name on the start list and with a few weeks to go, set about riding/running up/down as many hills as possible in preparation.

Winning this race for the first time back in 2014 was fantastic, so I’m very proud to have repeated it over the last two years. Word of mouth, post race, was that a certain Olympic champion might fancy the challenge again soon, so the course record is certainly under threat – which may mean I need to reset my expectations for next year?”
