Sam Rose heads to the Pitsford Standard Distance Triathlon and gets another win under her belt…
Here’s Sam’s account of the race:
“After the race briefing, the first two Male catagory waves set off, before the third and final wave, the Ladies were able to take position in the water. My swim felt really good and it was my first time racing in the new Huub wetsuit. During the 1500m, I overtook a good number of the males from the two waves in front and finished the swim in 00:19:07 – which I later found out was the fastest swim of the day.
T1 went smoothly and I set off on the bike feeling strong. The whole way through the undulating course, I tried to overtake as many of the guys in front as I could, whilst still familiarizing myself with my incredible Wilier TT bike. It felt much more comfortable this time round than a few weeks ago at the Cholmondeley Castle race and I finished the bike leg feeling quite good (01:10:11).
After a reasonable T2, I tried to fall into a rhythm on the run. I struggled a bit with my breathing initially, but then found a pace I was happy with. Apart from being very hot (as by then the weather was really starting to heat up), I didn’t feel too bad on the run. However, looking at my split afterwards, I was clearly struggling quite a bit (00:44:52, my slowest run in a long time). Overall I was happy with the race result. Another win under my belt, a chance to identify weak points to work on and simultaneously a happy day racing among the triathlon community.
