Isle of Bute Tri

Emma takes on a fun race on the Isle of Bute and claims her second win of the Season…

Triathlon number 2 of the Season and it was off on a boat to the Isle of Bute. It was a mini adventure just to get to the start line – with high winds and heavy rain, mixed in with a boat ride (which was not ideal for someone that suffers from sea sickness)!
I had heard lots of great things about this small race from several fellow triathletes. So with my new found plan of trying lots of different races, I thought I would head across to Bute and give it a go.

With the weather in Scotland still on the chilly side, this was another pool swim, followed by a pretty hilly out and back bike ride – where we were tested to the limit by the strong winds. The scenery was beautiful though to make up for the weather and then it was a 3 lap run, with lots of hardy supporters on route to cheer us on.

With a not bad swim, an honest bike and a pleasing run, I managed to get my second win of the year and a cheeky second overall too. Although I was given a beautiful bouquet of flowers and champagne for winning, it was hot chocolates on the ferry on the way home to celebrate!
