MTB World Cup, 1st Round

This quick article is being presented just to give you a little taste of things to come, because when Rob (team manager) gets back with the team from Houfilaze, Belgium next week he’ll be posting a two-part report on the exploits of the TORQ Performance team at the first World Cup meeting of the year in Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire…

This was a huge outing for TORQ, for a number of reasons.  We have supported Mountain Biking since the company was conceived in 1999, mainly because I personally used to ride Pro-Elite and the sport is quite simply in my blood.  Most weekends in the summer, we settle down in the middle of a field somewhere in the UK to support our team and provide nutritional support to the 100’s of people who quite literally have come to depend on us.

Our presence on the World stage has been strengthened in 2010 by the appointment of team manager Rob Barker who has set out on a plan to raise the standard of team-support in Mountain Biking to new levels.  The strength in depth of the TORQ team has always been noted, but this year it has got significantly stronger.  The rookies we’ve got competing on the world scene this weekend and last are testament to this.  It won’t be a journey without pain, but it’s a necessary journey none the less.  Our guys have teamed up with TORQ Australia’s seasoned athletes (including Dan McConnell – Australian National Champion) to form a UCI-registered 10-strong outfit.

So, arguably there isn’t a bigger event to support or take our team to than the World Cup. In addition to this though, WC 1 was in Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire and is set to return there for the next 2 years.  The atmosphere was electric and as in Rob’s reports that will follow next week, he’ll be giving you some insight into the two big events:

1) Friday night’s Pro Sprint Eliminator which was run through the streets of a closed-off Pickering.  1000’s of people lined the streets to watch this exciting spectacle or ‘Market Town Mountain Bike Racing’ and the TORQ Performance team were in full force.

2) Sunday’s Men and Women’s World Cup races in Dalby Forest – the main events of the weekend.

So, more detail to come.  Tune in again next week…
