Elite athletes have been fuelling at up to 90g carbohydrate per hour, using 2:1 glucose-fructose formulations, because science supported that this was optimal for peak performance.

Utilising a new 1:1 maltodextrin:fructose formulation, 1:1 PROTO allows elite athletes to redefine their limits, enabling them to fuel at ultra-high carbohydrate intakes of 120g+ per hour.

Our existing range of 2:1 Fuelling SystemTM products are optimal for any fuelling requirements up to 90g carbohydrate per hour. suiting the vast majority of people. If you’re currently comfortable fuelling at between 30 and 90g of carbohydrate per hour, you’re better off sticking to our 2:1 Fuelling System products – these will work more effectively than 1:1 PROTO. If on the other hand, you’re consistently fuelling at 90 grams of carbohydrate per hour (3 TORQ Units) in your training and racing, TORQ 1:1 PROTO is here to help take you to the next level.
Science, research and testing has shown that as long as the glucose transporter in the gut is saturated at 60g per hour, you can absorb and utilise more fructose than previously thought. The maltodextrin used in TORQ products is a special form of glucose that has additional performance benefits, but it still enters the blood via the glucose transporters.

Each 1:1 PROTO Energy Gel or Drink contains 40g carbohydrate in a 1:1 maltodextrin-fructose ratio. This equates to 20g glucose and 20g fructose.
Each 40g 1:1 PROTO dose is called an ATU (Advanced TORQ Unit)
3 x 1:1 PROTO ATUs = 120g and comprises of 60g glucose + 60g fructose.
The table below shows how you can combine our 2:1 Fuelling SystemTM products with our New 1:1 PROTO products to move from 90g of carbohydrate per hour to 120g. Notice how the ratio of glucose to fructose changes as overall carbohydrate intake increases.
Once you’ve got yourself to 120g per hour, you just need to ensure that you’re consuming the correct combination of ATUs to satisfy your fuelling and hydration needs. The diagram below shows how you should lean more towards energy drink ATUs when perspiration rates are higher and more towards energy gel ATUs when you’re sweating less.
