The Beautiful Broads

After a stop start summer of injuries, Steve Gibbs was thrilled to finally reach the start line of a race and then go on to take the win.

Steve said:

“After a Summer of injuries, race day finally arrived. It was a cool damp Sunday morning and as I packed the family into the car, it dawned on me as to just how long it had been since we had last raced.

Our destination was the Repps of Bastwick 10Km Trail Race, which was part of the Dunerunner Rag-it-Round Repps. I was slightly nervous, but also excited to get back doing what I love. The race venue was in a lovely typical Norfolk village and had plenty of interesting characters.

Due to my imposed time out from racing, I was not too sure of my fitness levels. I had therefore initially planned to sit back and let somebody or anybody take the race on. However, after the first 400m it became apparent that this wasn’t going to happen, so I pushed on to create a 30 second gap –  which I then maintained all the way home to claim the victory.

It was a flat but testing course that had us running along the beautiful Broads, through a farm and across fields. We were also given the chance to chase down some canicross runners which kept things interesting, as I am slightly nervous around our four legged friends.”
