    Louise Haston rides a personal best but has to settle for silver…

    The Saturday morning of the Masters National Track Championships is time trials day and Lou was up for the 500m TT.  Knowing team mate Maddy Moore was a beast (and reigning World Masters Champion) in this event, Louise was realistic about her chances of winning and so she was pleased with a PB and a silver medal behind Maddy who was only fractions of a second off her personal best.

    Louise Haston strikes gold on the first day of the Masters National Track Champs…

    TORQ Track Team’s Louise was riding all five championship events in 2016 and day one is for the sprinters.  She qualified second to team mate Maddy Moore but there was very little between them.  Louise then cruised through the early rounds to make the ride for gold/silver, where she rode a tactically perfect race to make the most of her strengths and claim gold and the National Masters Sprint title for 2016.

     Eleanor’s perseverance shone through and awarded her a mighty impressive result at the Wetherby Tri. 

    Yorkshire’s River Wharfe in May is usually known for its refreshing properties, so it was a shock to the system in more ways than one for Eleanor who has been struggling with a leg injury over the winter.

    Jan Leads National Series

    Jan Birkmyre gets on the podium again to hold onto lead in National Omnium Series at midway point …

    The latest round of the national series was held at Welwyn Garden City in glorious sunshine and Jan, who has won the first two rounds of this series, showed great consistency across the first three events.  However, the pursuit did not go to plan and she slipped two points behind the leaders going into the final event, the points race, and was unable to improve on this placing but still retains the lead in the overall series standings.  Jan said “I suffered horribly in the heat and got the pacing all wrong in the pursuit, it put me on the back foot going into the points race and I never regained the lead.  It is frustrating but that is the nature of a series, it rewards the most consistent rider across the season and anyone can have a bad day”.

    Uphill Training

    With his focus being firmly on the hilly Isle of Man Marathon in 5 weeks time and thinking it would be a good training run, Phil decided to enter Rutland’s Whissendine 6ix, known for being a hilly course, at the very last minute. 

    Phil set out fairly steadily and by the time he had completed his first mile, there were 2 clear leaders ahead of the pack that Phil was running with.
